Discovery gives an overview of the Corvette Z06. The Z06 can reach nearly 200mph and goes from zero to 60 in four seconds. The Z06 has a light aluminum skeleton frame that helps it reach higher speeds than other corvettes.
Alan Poster's corvette was stolen 37 years ago and he had no theft insurance at the time. Fortunately, Poster's luck eventually turned around 37 years later. Alan Poster's corvette was returned to him in January of this year and CorvetteAmerica.com donated $15,000 in parts to help restore the car. Pictures of Alan Poster with his restored corvette can be found here.
As a 26-year-old in the late 1960s, Poster indulged himself by buying a brand new blue Corvette for $6,000. Three months later, in January 1969, it was stolen from a parking garage in Manhattan, and since he was unable to afford theft insurance -- Poster lost the car and his $6,000. He never imagined he would see his car again.
In January of 2006, authorities notified Poster that the car had turned up in Long Beach, California. Apparently, an American collector was selling the car to a buyer in Sweden when a routine Customs check flagged the vehicle as stolen. The collector isn't suspected of any wrongdoing, and nobody knows where the car had been or how many hands it had passed through.
With the help of the California Highway Patrol, the Customs Service and the New York Police Department, the car has been returned to Poster.
"This is definitely a miracle," said Poster. "Because in speaking to the police, the odds of them finding me were a million to one."
The restored corvette is worth considerably more today than the $6,000 Poster paid for it in 1969. Poster's press release cites a Florida classic Corvette dealer that values the car at $20,000 to $60,000.
USA Today has the specs on Chevrolet's 2006 Z06 Corvette sports car. USA Today gave the Z06 a great review and the best news about the Z06 is that it comes without the high price tag attached to most sports cars. The Z06's starting price is $65,800 but you can end up paying $10,000 above that according to USA Today.
In the spotlight: Chevrolet's 2006 Z06 Corvette sports car. It is a breathtaking reminder that driving is, and ought to be, glorious fun.
The Z06 is a higher-performance version of the already high-performance Corvette. And what's great about it is the same thing that's great about the Corvette generally. You get stunning acceleration, handling, braking, steering and style in a car you can comfortably drive every day for a price the exotic foreign guys can't touch.
Heck, even the exotic Detroit guys can't beat it, dollar-for-dollar.
"We wanted to do a car that could compete with a lot of the supercars out there at $200,000 or $400,000, but one you could actually afford," says Harlan Charles, Corvette product manager.
The Z06 has been available since September. The Mercury News also gave the 2006 Z06 Corvette a favorable review.
