Several States Including California Ban Handhelds While Driving
California drivers now have to go hands-free if they want to talk while they drive. Bill Whitakers from CBS reports that experts believe it is the distraction from talking - not the holding a mobile phone - that technically causes motor vehicle accidents. California and Washington State are joining New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and D.C. in banning handhelds while driving. Nolo describes California's handheld law - there are exceptions for emergency calls. While handhelds are banned people can apparently still legally text and drive - as scary as that sounds.
